My research is located at the intersections between rhetoric, technology, and the design arts. My dissertation, An Art of Emergent Visual Rhetoric, explored the possibilities of theory-driven digital production. I'm also currently writing about sustainable Web design, the craft of digital production, and data-driven Web/new media, including approaches to conceptualizing and building custom-made content management systems.
The courses I have developed and taught in multimedia and technical writing reflect my research agenda. I am currently teaching a graduate seminar at IIT in Online Design, which centers on web standards, findability, and the emerging/emergent semantic web.
My production work in Web design and programming is always emerging with new discoveries in my research and teaching, while keeping me current on Web and new media technology developments in Web standards, usability and accessibility, and user experience design. The visual and structural redesign of the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) was one of my larger projects along these lines.
