To rework JFK a bit: “Ask not what your Web application can do for you; ask what you can do with your application.”

The less design, the less to eventually get sick of.

I just discovered that Firefox allows you to drag tabs between different windows; although it copies the tab and reloads the page, rather than just removing it from the original window, this is still really handy for organizing. (I always have at least two FF windows open and half a dozen tabs in each window, and usually one window on each of my two monitors. I know, it’s kind of sick.)

ATTW and CCCC 2008

I presented a talk called “Rethinking Digital Literacy in Terms of ‘Open Source’” at this year’s Association of Teachers of Technical Writing conference in New Orleans. The slide show and audio are both here.

I’ve made a promise to myself to stop reading papers at conferences, as much as possible. Recording those presentations is part of my efforts to improve speaking without a script; and it’s clear that there’s room for improvement on my ability to speak from sparse notes and a slide show.

I also presented at the CCCC Computer Conncections. “Using Microformats: Collaboration and the Semantic Web,” which is from a short piece on its way to becoming an article, is here. No audio on this one, as it was more of a conversation.
